Triangle East Amateur Radio Association Volunteer Examiner Team

Welcome to the Home of the Triangle East Amateur Radio Association Volunteer Examiner Team!

Who We Are

We are an ARRL sponsored VE team founded by Triangle East Amateur Radio Association (TEARA) members Dave (WB4IUY) and Debbie (AC4QD) Hockaday in 1992, and we have been testing continuously ever since. The TEARA VE Team serves amateur radio licensing candidates in eastern North Carolina through ten regularly scheduled exam sessions each year, as well as special sessions as needed. Our current volunteer examiners come from the ranks of TEARA and the Smithchart Amateur Radio Society.

If you are looking for material to prepare you for your entry level ham radio license, or if you live in eastern North Carolina and you want to take an amateur radio exam, you have come to the right place. So kick back, click, and enjoy your stay!

And if you want to be a part of one of the finest amateur clubs in the area, check out a TEARA meeting!

And be sure to visit the web home of TEARA.

*** Important News For All Technician Applicants ***

Bill Edwards, K4BWC, SK

Two weeks to the hour after the passing of Bill's wife, Gail (see below), Bill was fatally stricken by a heart attack on March 20, 2008.  Bill was a ham for over fifty years, and a long time member of the TEARA VE team. He was also a former TEARA vice president and a founding member of the Smithchart Amateur Radio Society. In addition, over the years he held several ARRL division positions and was the owner of Omega Electronics International in Knightdale.

But far more important than his accomplishments in amateur radio - and there were many - Bill was our friend. He was never without good joke and a kind word for all.  He repaired ham gear to make a living, but he lived to be with hams.  Bill will be sorely missed, and our VE sessions just won't be the same without him.

Our Deepest Sympathies to Bill Edwards, K4BWC

It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Gail Edwards on March 6, 2008.  Gail was the wife of Bill Edwards, one of our VE team members.  Those who knew her will never forget her kindness and wonderful sense of humor.

Joint Effort by Area Clubs Yields New NWS Hams!

A cooperative effort by several area amateur radio groups - including the TEARA VE Team - resulted in the licensing of four new meteorologist hams in the Raleigh Office of the National Weather Service.  For details, read NC4VA's account on page 12 of the NWS "Changing Skies"  newsletter, available HERE as a PDF file.
